Error codes 10 and 11 for Networks
On launching the program a temporary file will be created and deleted in the data folder (wordshark-shared or numbershark-shared) as a test. An error message will appear where one of these actions fails. Folder permissions and group policies on networks are the two most common causes for this.
ERROR CODE 10: PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE READ AND WRITE ACCESS TO THE FOLLOWING FOLDER AND TO ALL THE FILES WITHIN IT: PATHTOSHAREDFOLDER
NETWORK PRODUCT - Error 10 possible causes include:
- Review the Network Installation Instructions step 1: Check all users have ‘read, write, modify and delete’ permissions for the data folder. Setting the Security Tab to “full control” normally works well.
- Also at the Network Installation Instructions step 1: Check that the wordshark-shared folder has been ‘shared’ with advanced sharing permissions of ‘Full control’ for ‘Everyone’.
- Check that a group policy has not overwritten any of the permissions set manually, for example with a ‘deny’ permission for a folder above. Trying to install to the root of the server C: drive usually fails, as this is very commonly subject to GPO restrictions.
ERROR CODE 11: PLEASE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE DELETE PERMISSIONS FOR: PATHTOSHAREDFOLDER
- Check users have permission to delete files from the wordshark-shared folder. See ‘Error code 10’ for causes and solutions.
